At some point, nearly everyone needs time to recover from a serious illness, care for a sick loved one, or welcome a new child. But 62% of Illinois families cannot even take the unpaid leave they need without risking their jobs or their economic security. Too many people are forced to choose between keeping their jobs to make ends meet and getting the treatment they need to be healthy or being there for a loved one when they are needed most. That is not acceptable, and it must change.
New parents deserve time to bond with their children. Family members should be able to be there when a loved one falls seriously ill.
This way of working does not support families, workers, communities, or our economy. Join us by signing on to the Illinois Time to Care Coalition and supporting the passage of the Family and Medical Leave Insurance Act, which will create paid leave policies that make it possible for workers to take the time they need for themselves or loved ones.
